YCD News – According to foreign media reports, on March 21, Amazon’s new distribution center in the south of Dubai was officially put into operation. This is a further step in Amazon’s expansion in the UAE.
The new distribution center has 2.1 million cubic feet of storage capacity, which will increase Amazon’s total storage capacity in the UAE by 70%. With Ramadan approaching, the facility will enable Amazon to offer customers a wider selection of products, including electronics, appliances, groceries, fashion, books and more.
The new facility is five stories high, has close to three kilometers of conveyor belts and covers more than 350,000 square feet. Not only that, but the new facility incorporates a carbon-friendly design concept, efficient control systems, data and analytics that can greatly improve energy efficiency.
The company recently pledged to “increase the number of businesses selling on Amazon.ae from 50,000 to 100,000, including SMEs, by 2026. to support the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and make Dubai a global leader in the digital economy.”
Amazon will offer Fulfilled delivery services to SMEs, enabling them to store, pick, pack and ship customer orders through Amazon as a way to reach a wider customer base faster and more efficiently, the report said. And, SMEs will also gain access to logistics expertise provided by Amazon.
The new facility is located in the Dubai South Logistics District, adjacent to the cargo terminal at Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and connected to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor for easy access by sea.
