Amazon’s big move in Egypt: new warehouses, global customer service centers are located in Cairo

Amazon Egypt General Manager Omar and his accompanying delegation met with Engineer Ahmed Samir, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, in the presence of Eng. Mohamed Abdel Karim, President of the Industrial Development Authority.

Amazon officially announced that the largest customer service center in the region is located in New Cairo, Egypt, which will cover customers in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as well as Germany and Australia. The center is expected to be fully operational next year in 2023.

1,600 jobs will be created in Egypt, including customer service, technical and administrative positions in customer service, quality assurance, training, data analytics, and positions in the communications sector. Equipped with the latest specs, it provides Amazon shoppers with a high level of customer service.

Meanwhile, Amazon is gearing up for its hottest shopping season at the end of the year, with both White Friday and Singles’ Day taking place in November this year.

In addition, Amazon plans to continue to open new warehouses in the second half of 2023, following the opening of new warehouses in 2021 and the establishment of 22 delivery stations to provide more than 3,000 jobs in Egypt as a company project.

In addition, Amazon announced that it will cooperate with the Egyptian Agency for the Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to promote Egyptian handicrafts through the Amazon platform. For this purpose, a special page has been opened to support owners of small, medium and micro enterprises in various industries.

Amazon is currently negotiating with the government to build a data center for it in Egypt and is working with representatives from the Ministry of Transportation on the legal aspects of the project, according to people familiar with the matter.

Given Egypt’s unique geographic location, as well as the dramatic improvements in telecommunications infrastructure and the boom in digital transformation, Amazon has shown great interest in building state-adopted data centers in the local market.
